Bolted Panel Silo

A bolted panel silo is assembled on site from rolled and punched steel panels joined with sealed bolted joints, removing the transport diameter limit of welded vessels. Built in galvanised steel, epoxy-coated steel, or stainless panels, it serves large-capacity powder storage from 50 to above 1,000 m3 for flour mills, cement, minerals, and chemical plants.

Challenges

Joint Leakage of Fine Powders

Fine powders below 50 micron migrate through inadequately sealed bolted joints, causing housekeeping loss, dust exposure, and moisture ingress paths.

Bolt Torque Relaxation

Thousands of joint bolts relax under thermal cycling and wind-induced shell movement, gradually opening seams if not retorqued.

Sealant Degradation Under UV and Weather

Outdoor mastic and gasket materials harden and crack under UV exposure and temperature cycling, opening moisture ingress paths into the stored powder.

Site Assembly Quality Dependence

Storage integrity depends on site workmanship; misaligned panels or missed sealant runs are difficult to detect after erection.

Coating Damage During Erection

Panel handling and bolting scratch protective coatings, creating localised corrosion cells that shorten shell life in humid coastal climates.
