A multi-functional processor (MFP) combines top-spray granulation, Wurster coating, tangential rotor granulation, and standalone drying in a single interchangeable fluid bed unit — using the same product bowl with exchangeable Wurster insert, rotor disc, or spray nozzle configurations. Processing 1–200 kg, it enables a single FBP to perform all unit operations in a flexible pharmaceutical development or multi-product production suite — maximum equipment utilisation with minimum floor space requirement.

The base MFP unit is configured for each process step by exchanging the spray configuration (top-spray nozzle bar, bottom-spray Wurster insert, or tangential nozzle ring) and base plate (standard distributor or rotor disc). A universal product bowl accepts all inserts with standardised Tri-Clamp connections. The PLC recipe library stores settings for each configuration; changeover between top-spray and Wurster takes 20–45 minutes with tool-free clamp fittings. All configurations share a single validated CIP protocol.
