Hydraulic Column Lifter cum Tipper
A hydraulic column lifter cum tipper raises a powder container, bin, or blender shell on a guided carriage along a vertical column and rotates it up to 135 degrees to discharge into a machine hopper. Built in SS 304 or SS 316L with cleanroom-grade hydraulics, it removes all manual lifting and pouring, serving GMP powder charging duties from 100 to 500 kg.

The container locks into a cone-clamp or cage on the carriage. A hydraulic power pack drives a lifting cylinder while a cam track or slew cylinder rotates the container through the tipping arc at the set height. Discharge mates with a docking cone or containment head on the receiving hopper. Two-hand controls, guard interlocks, and a load-holding valve secure every phase of the cycle.
Challenges
Dust Liberation at the Pour Point
Open tipping into a hopper releases airborne powder at the transfer point, exposing operators and contaminating the GMP room.
Uncontrolled Discharge Surge
Full-arc tipping dumps the entire container in one surge, flooding feeders and overfilling machine hoppers.
Crush and Shear Zones Along the Column
The moving carriage and rotating container create crush points that endanger operators working close to the machine.
Hydraulic Oil Contamination Risk
Cylinder or hose leakage above open product zones risks direct oil contamination of the powder.
Container Interface Variability
Mixed container fleets with differing collars and geometries prevent secure clamping on a single tipper design.
Solutions
- Contained Docking Cone with Extraction: A silicone-skirted docking cone sealing container to hopper, with a dust extraction take-off, keeps operator exposure within occupational limits.
- Butterfly Valve Discharge Under Tip: Fitting containers with a discharge butterfly valve, opened only after docking, converts the surge into a controlled, feeder-paced flow.
- Interlocked Guard Fencing with Muting Zones: Fenced enclosures with interlocked access gates and light-curtain muting for container loading eliminate exposure to crush zones during the powered cycle.
- Food-Grade Fluid and Drip Containment: H1 food-grade hydraulic fluid, hard-piped runs, and a drip tray under the power pack remove the oil contamination path above product.
- Standardised Clamp Collar Specification: Adopting one clamp collar standard across the container fleet, with adaptor frames for legacy bins, restores secure single-design clamping.
Applications
- Blender and Mixer Charging: Lifting and tipping powder bins into paddle blender, octagonal blender, and mass mixer inlets.
- Sifter and Mill Feeding: Charging vibro sifters, multi-mills, and co-mills at controlled height without manual pouring.
- Tablet Press Hopper Loading: Contained charging of final blend containers into press feed hoppers in compression rooms.
- Packing Machine Hopper Feed: Feeding auger fillers and sachet machine hoppers from mobile powder bins.
- Reactor and Vessel Manhole Charging: Controlled addition of powder charges into process vessel manways with docking containment.
