Fixed Access Platform & Process Equipment Platform
A fixed access platform is a permanent elevated SS structure providing a level work surface around or above process equipment — reactors, mixers, blenders, vessel heads, filter presses, and process skids — with a perimeter handrail system and kick plate meeting EN ISO 14122 / OSHA 1910.23 access equipment standards. Processing working live loads of 2.0–7.5 kN/m² (200–750 kg/m²) at platform heights of 600 mm to 6,000 mm, it provides permanent safe access for operation, sampling, maintenance, and inspection without temporary scaffolding.

The primary structure is fabricated from SS 316L RHS (rectangular hollow section) or channel main beams spanning between SS 316L welded tube column posts — column spacings of 1,200–2,400 mm are typical. Secondary beams (joists) span between primary beams at 300–600 mm centres. Flooring panels (chequer plate, grating, or perforated plate) are bolted or clip-fixed to the joist grid, fully demountable for equipment access. The perimeter handrail system consists of a top rail (DN 40–DN 50 tube, 1,100 mm above platform), intermediate rail (500–550 mm), and toe board (kick plate, 150 mm high) — conforming to EN ISO 14122-3. Self-closing spring gates provide access to stair and ladder openings.

Flooring Gap Width at Equipment Penetrations Creating Tripping Hazard
Gaps around pipes, columns, and equipment penetrations through flooring exceed 20 mm — regulatory non-compliance and trip hazard.
Solutions
- Full-Penetration Butt Welds on All Primary Frame Joints + Post-Weld Acid Passivation: Full-penetration butt welds eliminate crevice; citric or nitric acid passivation forms chromium oxide film on all weld zones.
- Joist Sizing to L/300 Deflection Limit Under Full Live Load (Secondary Beam Depth ≥ Span/25): Engineer joists to L/300 — span 1,200 mm: joist depth ≥ 48 mm; span 1,800 mm: ≥ 72 mm minimum for 3 kN/m².
- Column Base Plates with Drainage Slot + Raised Mounting on Grout Pad (25 mm Stand-Off): Slotted base plate allows drainage; 25 mm grout pad lifts plate above floor — eliminates standing water contact zone.
- Post Spacing ≤ 1,000 mm + DN 48.3 × 2 mm Handrail Tube (DN 50 CHS, Grade 316L): 1,000 mm maximum post spacing with DN 48.3 × 2 mm structural CHS handrail — exceeds EN 14122 horizontal 0.3 kN/m load requirement.
- Close-Fitting Trim Plates Around All Equipment Penetrations (Gap ≤ 12 mm, Bolted Removable): Removable trim plates close gaps to ≤ 12 mm (OSHA/EN compliant) — bolted for removal during equipment maintenance.
